    Join us for a free virtual session hosted by Gold Standard Arts Foundation (GSAF) board member Bonnie Oda Homsey as she hosts Tiffany Bong and Chisa Yamaguchi in conversation about teaching the next generation of artists and leaders.

    Tiffany Bong founder of Hip Hop group UniverSoul and USC Kaufman “Connections” youth program and Chisa Yamaguchi, The Music Center Master Teaching Artist and Senior Manager/Producer at SOZO, share the why and how they built their educational networks and teaching expertise to connect and inspire young people. Learn how they developed their individual approaches to center on fun, values, self-confidence, and building skills for youth that carry beyond the art form.

Artist statements are used to apply for funding, to attract donors and supporters, receive commissions, and clarify your unique creative voice in a sea of other artists — but can often be confusing or inconsistent with the artistic product. Join GSAF President Phil Chan for a hands-on workshop to put into words what makes *your* work special, distilling your creative output into a succinct description of your approach that will make you more attractive to funders and presenters, while clarifying how including your Asian identity might strengthen your artist statement.

In Bloom: Works-in-Progress Showcase

A powerful voice of the Indian diaspora, Achinta S. McDaniel founded and has lead Blue 13 Dance for 20+ years. Her style draws from Bhangra, Kathak, Bollywood, Hip Hop, Ballet and Jazz. She is known for inventive stagings pushing boundaries of contemporary concert, commercial, and community engagement that challenge monolithic representations of Indianess and questions the hierarchies of pop culture v high art.

Kim Chan, Associate Artistic Director at Jacob’s Pillow, discusses the state of the dance ecosystem and supporting the development of new work. Chan has worked extensively in New York City, the Berkshires, and Washington, D.C. as a producer, curator, presenter, marketer, and fundraiser of poetry, music, theater, dance, arts education, and literature.
